Moroccan Meat Balls (Keftedakia)

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces of bread trimmed
  • 1?4 cup of ouzo
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 lb of lean ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp. shredded fresh mint
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

1 – Place the trimmed bread pieces into a food processor and blend until smooth. Place the breadcrumbs and the remaining ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Mix well. Shape the meat into 1- inch balls. Place onto a parchment paper lined baking tray and place into a preheated 375-degree oven. Roast inside the oven until golden brown and tender (about 12 minutes). Remove from the oven and serve with a mixed nut rice pilaf.

Options – use dried bread crumbs & substitute ouzo with anise
